SEC Officials to Speak at Garrett Corporate and Securities Law Program

Keynote speaker Martin P. Dunn and six other senior Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) officials will address pressing issues facing corporate and securities lawyers at Northwestern University School of Law's 26th Annual Ray Garrett Jr. Corporate and Securities Law Institute.

Part of a nationally prominent continuing legal education program that addresses evolving concerns of today's legal and business worlds, the Garrett Institute will take place May 4 and 5 at the School of Law, 375 E. Chicago Ave.

Led by the SEC officials and experienced practitioners, the institute will address issues such as proposed disclosure rules for executive compensation, implications of the new reform process for securities offerings and dealing with activist stockholders. A discussion on U.S./European Union antitrust enforcement will include Jeffrey Schmidt, director, Bureau of Competition, Federal Trade Commission.

Representing the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance will be John W. White, the new director; keynote speaker Dunn and Shelley E. Parratt, deputy directors; Carol A. Stacey, chief accountant; Paula Dubberly, associate director; and Pamela A. Long, assistant director. Other speakers include Merri Jo Gillette, regional director of the SEC's Midwest Regional Office, and Alan L. Beller, former director of the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance.

Now in its 26th year, the Ray Garrett Jr. Corporate and Securities Law Institute is supported by more than 27 of the Midwest's premier law firms.
