11/1/03 BARTLIT CENTER TRIAL TEAM PLACES THIRD IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

Northwestern University School of Law’s Bartlit Center Trial Team placed third overall at the 2003 National Trial Competition hosted by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) October 29 to November 1 in New Orleans.

The team of Angela Barry, JD '04, Melissa Dickey, JD '04, Pete Surdo, JD '04, and James Temple, JD '04, bested Temple University and the University of North Carolina to advance to the semi-final round. Members of the NACDL Board of Directors presented the Bartlit Center Trial Team with a plaque in honor of their achievement at the annual NACDL meeting on Saturday.

The team coaches for this competition were Chris Landgraff, Steven Nachtwey, Jill Trumbull-Harris, all from the law firm of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott, and Nate Diamond-Falk, a private practice criminal defense attorney.

The Bartlit Center Trial Team is named after the Fred Bartlit Center for Trial Strategy, established at the Law School in 1999 in honor of Fred H. Bartlit, an innovative leader in litigation and business strategies and one of the founding partners of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott. The Bartlit Center Trial Team will next compete in the Association of American Trial Lawyers Regional Competition this spring.
