Student Volunteers Teach Constitutional Rights Lessons
As part of the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago's "Lawyers in the Classroom" program, six Northwestern Law students taught lessons about the Bill of Rights to about 100 seventh and eighth grade students at Talcott Elementary School on Dec. 1. Northwestern Law "adopted" Talcott in 2003 as part of an educational partnership with Chicago Public Schools' Futures Exchange Program. Talcott serves a mostly low-income, Latino student population, 30 percent of whom have limited English skills. Other programs this semester include a weekly reading session with third graders, participation in the Principal for a Day event, and judgment of the annual science fair.
